Scenic Rim Farmgate Trail 2022

scenic rim farmgate trail 2022

Destination Scenic Rim has held two farmgate trails this year. We were in Melbourne during the first but were lucky enough to participate in this most recent. There’s a lot of land to cover in the Scenic Rim and we couldn’t expect to do more than a handful of farmgates. Thankfully Desitination Scenic Rim provided a handy map and we were able to set course for some lovely farmgate experiences.

White’s Farm

Our first stop was White’s Farm, where they had set up a little farmgate stall. We picked up a nice big Jap pumpkin and some honey. I think we’re accumulating enough honey to see us through to our retirement but it’s hard to resist the temptation to buy more from the farmer who made it.

We also got some garlic and some petunias grown by their granddaughter Maddie. She couldn’t attend to see her hard work receiving the love it deserved because she was in hospital getting treatment for leukemia. We hope she recovers quickly.

Tommerups' Dairy Farm

From White’s Farm it was a short hop over to Tommerup’s Dairy Farm. The full farmgate experience could be had here and more, including food, music, animals to pet and feed, and a range of produce to buy. We got some cheese and yogurt from Scenic Rim 4 Real Milk, some delicious lamb cutlets from Tommerup, among other produce (like pickled native spinach). Then it was off to meet the animals.

We were supposed to go to Oaky Creek Farm and Harvest Cafe next but I took a shortcut. I’m not real good at following maps (by which I mean, I refuse to follow maps) and while we missed the cafe we saw some of the lushest countryside ever. All this rain has turned up the vividness to 11. It really was some of the nicest driving I’ve done.

Having missed the cafe we thought we’d push on to Towri Sheep Cheeses

Towri Sheep Cheeses

They had some really lovely gardens at Towri, including a rose garden and a lawn for picnics. We bought some cheeses and the lovely staff at Towri provided a plate and crackers so we could have an impromptu picnic.

Our pictures didn’t really capture the place but thankfully they’ve got a grand tour organised for us:

We’ve been enjoying their marinated feta and a hard cheese made in collaboration with other farmers. During the floods there wasn’t much milk about. So they sourced milk from their neighbouring farms and made a blend of sheep, goat, camel and cow milk. That’s right, I said camel milk, from Summerland Camels

Bee All Natural And Organic

Just up the road from Towri was Bee All Natural. They’re multi-award winning apiarist and honey producers. We’d already filled up on honey but couldn’t resist their tumeric honey. A bit in a stir fry brings it to life. They also had chocolate honey, cinnamon honey, and a load of others. As well, they had natural insect repellant and other goods.

We were about ready to head back home by this stage so we found our way back through Beaudesert to the Gold Coast. It’s not the shortest way home apparently and maybe I should learn to consult maps sometimes. Nah.

We haven’t mentioned everything we saw and bought. Below is a picture of some of our bounty. Scenic Rim Farmgate seems to take place about every 6 month. I highly recommend it.
