Buck’s Farm is a great stop on the backroads into Murwillumbah. The shop has interesting fruits like black sapote, they have chocolate-coated bananas, and you can wander the gardens out back. They grow tropical and native plants here, like lemon myrtle and finger limes. We’re told that most of it is sold down in Sydney. But if you’re passing by don’t forget to stop and check out what they have, take a wander through the garden and (most importantly) enjoy a choccy nana.
We’ve been visiting this end of northern NSW for a bit over 20 years. In that time, Bucks Farm has always been there. It was here that we first tried black sapote (chocolate fruit, put a bit of cream on it and it’s remarkably similar to a chocolate mousse), star fruit and (perhaps) dragon fruit. They have exotic tropical fruits like that but also a collection of native bush foods like finger limes.
The town of Chillingham is a cute little town to stop at on the way to/from Murwillumbah. It’s also the the turn-off for Tyalgum, a popular destination for weekenders. There are many roadside stalls in this area. At the far end of town you can just about always get a bag of bananas. Heading up over the mountains into Queensland there are most stalls or and yet more in Numinbah Valley on the way to the Gold Coast.
We used to motorbike through here regularly and now cruise in the car but regardless of how you travel it’s a great area to drive through. We always stop at Bucks and can recommend a saunter up the mountains so you can keep an eye out for more stalls. Many are already marked on our map but new ones often appear. If you see any, please add them to our directory.
